What is the Gravel Grind?
The first ever gravel grind event was held on May 31, 2015 in conjunction with the Radical Edge. Raising over $15,000 to support Special Olympics New Brunswick! Now going into our 8th year we plan to continue to raise the bar and provide participants with the most epic recreational ride of the year!
Once again this is a fundraising event for Special Olympics dedicated to bringing a group of fun, friendly and adventurous people together... all for a great cause! Although not required we do strongly encourage you to sign-up online and fundraise. Every dollar goes towards Special Olympics programs right here in New Brunswick!
The Gravel Grind is being held in the spirit of the Italian grand fondo; or cross country ski loppet. Some cyclists ride for the satisfaction and pride of just completing in an event, while others want to challenge themselves, their friends and of course some want to win! With all of this in mind this is not a race. We are devoted to maintaining a laid back and fun atmosphere that can be enjoyed by both the recreative and competitive cyclists!
This event is intended to appeal to all types of riders; road, mountain, cyclocross and hybrids so hopefully by now you have the idea that this more of a celebration of cycling, spring and the gathering of like minded individuals!
The Gravel Grind is prefect for all riders especially those who love to have a good challenge, good food and good drinks. There will be a wrap-up social following the event at The Landing Fredericton.
As for the course itself, it will have a variety of distances meant to challenge all levels of cyclists and the terrain well....as you can imagine... it will encompass a number of kilometers on multiuse trails (crusher dust), dirt roads as well as asphalt.
What to Wear
Always important to keep an eye on the weather and come prepared. As usual the following are the essentials;
